So it’s been a while since I frequented the allotment. The weather is definitely feeling more wintery by the day. There isn’t a lot growing going on at the moment. Still I thought I’d better pop down to check nothing was out of place. My onions are growing steadily and the garlic has started to peep through the soil (ignore the weeds, I am!).
My Brussels Sprouts however have mostly had all the foliage ravaged! I had one good stalk (the stalk that I thought was going to be destroyed by whitefly!) The leaves and the odd sprout had taken a hit with some nibbling, but other than that I actually had a stalk with actual reasonably sized edible brussels sprouts!
In our house I am the only one who likes a good sprout with their Christmas dinner, so I am super happy that I get a good old, home grown one on my plate this year!
Yum!
I’m with you on this vegetable. I like it that others don’t so I can get more on my plate without feeling greedy. My favourite method for cooking these is to parboil and then lightly saute with some chopped bacon. Smashing!

I need to try them with bacon! I’ve always stuck to boiling them, just because that’s how my mum used to serve them to us.
